ER thoughts
ER
rotation july 1-31, 2005.
PEOPLE
/faculty
Muttau – residency director. friendly accessible fellow, seems bright. he works as an attending on the floor. (south asian, glasses, grayish black hair, med build and height)
Martinez – clinical director. i saw him on the floor a lot, but didn't know who he was. he never introduced himself, but he seemed nice enough. (latin-looking guy, dark hair of med length, sorta tall)
Witting – research director. just saw him once during didactics

/interns
probably leaving the same time i am? some new ones with the change in rotations
/students
i think they're transitioning out the first week of august
TIME
/shifts
make sure to check your shifts when their rotations end; they changed my schedule during the last week of july and i didn't know about. nothing drastic, and actually to a better schedule, but you should check
7a-7p, main ed
red or blue intern. pick whichever team depending on the other intern coming on, whomever gets there first
10-10p, main ed
green (swing) intern. i liked this the most b/c you didn't have to sign out and pick up patients you didn't really know.
10a-10p, urgent care
/didactics
on wednesday, 7:30a to around 1p. so if you're scheduled for a wed shift, you can go directly to the didactics at 7:30a in the Shock Trauma Center auditorium (the one near where we got the id cards; and the same place where we had that super long boring day of orientation paperwork).
i only had one wed shift during the entire month, and only b/c i had switched shifts with another intern. i didn't know that we could go directly to didactics, and showed up for sign-out at 7a. it turned out fine b/c i knew some of the patients a little bit better when we got back fr conference. they had a residents' meeting at around 11:30a/12p and kicked me out. but was the first lunch period ever while in the ER – a nice break.
they have pretty good didactics. lectures, combo lecture with the internal medicine group, residents' comment, journal club type discussions, etc.
